I booked a several day long riverboat ride from Iquitos, Peru to Leticia, Columbia. Along the way, we had various activities planned, including a walk through primary Amazon rainforest, visiting Amazon jungle villages on both the Amazon River and its tributaries, fishing for piranha, and swimming in the Amazon River. One night we went out looking for caiman and our guide caught a small one, maybe two feet long. I have to say I enjoyed the trip and the sights along the way. I booked this trip with Amazon Tours & Cruises . The trip was made on the M/V Rio Amazonas. I hope you enjoy my photos of the Amazon river and jungle.

This is our guide, Beder, standing next to this huge tree to show its size in perspective. You can see the fins of the roots are taller than Beder.	Despite it not being the rainy season, the jungle was still very lush and green, with some flowers blooming.
This tree can "walk" up to about one foot per year. By growing new roots on one side and letting roots on the other side die, the tree can move toward openings in the jungle canopy to reach the sunlight it needs to grow.	We encountered some leaf cutter ants while walking through the jungle. These ants cut pieces from leaves and carry them back to their nest, where they're used to grow mold as a source of food for the colony. In effect, these ants are farmers.
