Originally, the word "Inca" meant king, but the use of the word has expanded to describe the people of that culture - the Incans. Some trivia that historical experts on the Incan culture report: the Incans did not use writing. However, they did use a form of accounting and non-verbal communication known as quipus, which were knots tied in color-coded cords. These were used to report on crop production and other vital statistics. The Incans used no furniture in their homes. The Incans used no wheeled vehicles. Despite this, they built roads that stretched for thousands of miles, e.g. one that stretched from Quito, Ecuador to Argentina and Chile.

The Incans also succeeded in domesticating a South American mammal - the guanaco. Subsequently, they bred from this species the llama and alpaca. The wool of the alpaca is treasured world wide for its plush softness.

I hope you enjoy my photos of the Andes Mountains and Machu Picchu.
