The people of Ollantaytambo are very proud of their Incan heritage. After I spent a day exploring the ruins on the mountainside overlooking the town, the innkeeper at my hostel asked me if I'd visited the structures on the sheer cliffs near the sculpture. Obviously, they were accessible to the ancient Incans who built them, but I had no idea there were still a way to easily reach these seemingly inaccessible structures.

These are the impressive Incan ruins at Ollantaytambo.

Many of the people in Ollantaytambo dress in the traditional Incan style. Sometimes they wear their best and pose for photos in the ruins.

Ollantaytambo and the Incan ruins have a beautiful setting in the Urubamba valley, surrounded by mountains.

Incan towns and villages were well engineered. Many were built on a series of tiers excavated from the mountainsides. Each tier was built with water drainage that was collected in cisterns at each level with drainage connecting down to the next cistern on the level below.
