Cusco, Peru is a beautiful city high in the
Andes Mountains.
It sits in a mountainous valley surrounded by mountain peaks. Like most South
American cities, Cusco is built around a central plaza. Like all Peruvian
cities, it is the Plaza de Armas. Cusco's Plaza de Armas has a pleasant
fountain and a Cathedral built on Incan ruins.

I often saw women carrying heavy loads of
some type of long green stalks up the heavily banked alleyways surrounding
Cusco. I discovered this was the feed for guinea pigs, raised in their homes to
be sold to restaurants, which serve them as a delicacy. This one-room home was
full of the little critters.

After spending many days exploring Cusco
and other villages, I began hiking/trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, high
in the Peruvian
Andes. The Inca trail has been called by some, the Inca "trial". The
altitude, along with steep climbs and descents, make this trek in the Andes
Mountains a challenging
one.

We camped at beautiful sites at high
elevations, sometimes above the clouds next to fascinating ancient Incan
ruins in the Andes Mountains.
